There are no quick fixes for human suffering or life’s complex problems. Genuine transformation and lasting recovery can and do happen, sometimes in unexpected ways, but these often take time, courage, and a commitment to self-examination. Many clients come to me after failing to achieve satisfactory results with other therapies or medications.
My depth approach blends contemporary psychoanalysis with analytical psychology. This approach fosters understanding about where our symptoms come from and what they mean, as well as insight into the inner and often unconscious dynamics that drive our dysfunctional patterns. Suffering and symptoms are often signs that we haven’t yet integrated important parts of ourselves. This integration takes place as we begin to establish conscious relationships with parts of ourselves we previously ignored, denied or even disdained.
When successful, therapy leads to more authentic, meaningful, and healthier ways of being, living, and relating; it sparks lasting personality change and more honest relationships with ourselves, others, and the world around us. And the change is one that will continue playing out long after therapy has ended.

Performance counseling is more goal-oriented than individual psychotherapy. It helps clients to overcome psychological barriers to the achievement of potential and optimum performance in specific activities or life areas (artistic, athletic, or professional). Such barriers may present as anxiety, self-defeating attitudes, "choking," or burnout. Clients overcome these barriers and reach greater heights by discovering new ways of relating to and experiencing an activity.
Performance counseling includes some skills and techniques, but, more importantly, it invites clients to reflect on deeper issues. Why am I pursuing this activity? What does it mean to me? Who am I doing it for? What does this activity represent in the broader context of my life? Through performance counseling, obstacles and barriers become springboards to enhanced performance, a deeper connection with one's chosen activity, or a meaningful career transition.
Relationships play pivotal roles in who we are and how we live life. Issues tend to arise when we become disconnected from our true desires and needs, or when we sacrifice too much individuality for the sake of the couple. This can lead to resentment and breakdowns in communication. Unconscious factors related to past experiences also play roles in relationship and marital struggles. Bringing these factors to light in couples counseling deepens our connection with ourselves and fosters the capacity for partners to relate to each other in fresh new ways.
